Hallowell Watch Co.
About the atelier

About

Hallowell is an independent mechanical watchmaking atelier, founded in 2011, hand-assembling every reference on one bench.

Hallowell was founded in 2011 by a single watchmaker who left a large Swiss manufacture frustrated by how much of "luxury" watchmaking had become supply-chain assembly rather than bench work.

Every reference is still built one at a time, on the same bench, by someone who will also be the person who services it in ten years. We build in runs of under 50 pieces at a time.

How a Reference Gets Built

Five stages, same bench every time.

01

Movement selection

Each reference starts from a base caliber, stripped down and inspected before a single part is touched.

02

Hand-finishing

Bridges are beveled, screws are polished, and the balance is poised by hand.

03

Case & dial

Cases are machined to spec, then hand-finished; dials are checked against the movement before final assembly.

04

Assembly

The full watch is assembled on one bench by one watchmaker, start to finish.

05

Regulation

Every watch is timed across positions for two weeks before it ships.

The Atelier

Four people, one bench.
