Hallowell Watch Co.
Independent mechanical atelier — Est. 2011

Time, built to last.

Hallowell hand-assembles mechanical watches in small numbered runs. Every movement is regulated on the bench, every case is finished by hand, and every reference is built to be serviced for decades, not discarded.

Atelier founded

Hallowell was founded in 2011 by a single watchmaker who left a large Swiss manufacture frustrated by how much of "luxury" watchmaking had become supply-chain assembly rather than bench work.

Every reference is still built one at a time, on the same bench, by someone who will also be the person who services it in ten years. We build in runs of under 50 pieces at a time.

  • Every movement regulated by hand on the bench, not by machine batch
  • Runs kept under 50 pieces so one watchmaker can see a build through
  • Serviced by the same atelier that built it, for as long as it runs

How a Reference Gets Built

Five stages, same bench every time.

01

Movement selection

Each reference starts from a base caliber, stripped down and inspected before a single part is touched.

02

Hand-finishing

Bridges are beveled, screws are polished, and the balance is poised by hand — the parts of the work a machine can technically do but never quite the same way twice.

03

Case & dial

Cases are machined to spec, then hand-finished; dials are printed, lumed, and checked against the movement before final assembly.

04

Assembly

The full watch is assembled on one bench by one watchmaker, start to finish, rather than passed along a line.

05

Regulation

Every watch is timed across positions for two weeks before it ships, and adjusted by hand until it holds within spec.

Owner Notes

What ten years actually looks like.

“

I've had cheaper watches die in two years. This one I plan on handing to my kid someday.

The engine-turned dial catches light differently every time I glance at it. Worth the wait on the order list.

Sent it in for a strap swap and they had photos of the movement mid-service within a day. Felt like dealing with a person, not a ticket number.
